The Top 10 Ten Things You Can Do Right Now to Support Recovery from EMR Syndrome

DISCLAIMER

The information, resources, and other tools referenced on this website — while beneficial to many — will not be applicable to all individuals or in all circumstances. The information provided here, and in other EMR Syndrome Alliance materials, is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for the advice of your doctor or healthcare provider. Each individual recovery plan must be personalized for one’s unique genetics, medical history, and environmental exposures.

FIRST THINGS FIRST

The recognition that one has been impacted by EMR Syndrome may come on suddenly or gradually. Confirmation of the condition can be made by removing or unplugging nearby sources of EMR (cell phones, Wi-Fi routers, smart TVs, etc.), then observing whether one’s symptoms lessen or disappear. Creating distance between you and the source of radiation is also the first step toward healing. Most people with EMR Syndrome improve significantly in an environment free of man-made EMR.

ENVIRONMENTAL MEDICINE

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) was established in 1965 as an independent association of physicians and scientists to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases arising from environmental factors. The AAEM has written extensively on the hazards of wireless electromagnetic radiation (EMR). Recognizing that EMR Syndrome is a growing problem worldwide, the AAEM seeks to research and put into practice safe, effective treatments… educate medical professionals… and provide cautionary measures regarding the regulation of modern technology, including smart meters. Many AAEM members are board-certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties. To learn about AAEM’s Annual Conference, visit https://www.aaemonline.org/

The National Association of Environmental Medicine (NAEM) is a member-based organization focused on providing education and resources for clinicians regarding environmentally-driven health conditions, including EMR Syndrome. Its mission is to raise awareness and equip medical professionals with the tools to apply environmental medicine in practice. NAEM’s primary educational program is grounded in its extensively updated clinical guidelines, which focus on the ten leading toxicants and provide up-to-date research, testing options, treatment plans and clinical pearls from leading experts. NAEM’s EMF guideline, updated by Dr. Stephanie McCarter, MD, goes into extensive detail on kinetics, health impacts and treatments, in addition to the multiple co-factors that need to be considered and treated with EMF sensitivity. A comprehensive patient guideline, available here, details sources of exposure, potential symptoms, treatment, avoidance strategies, tools and resources.

NAEM also offers three webinars on EMF Sensitivity, including the following:

  • EMF Sensitivity: Diagnostics and Treatments
  • Is an Environmental Co-Factor Sickening Your Patients? A Radiologist’s Perspective
  • EMR Syndrome

To find a NAEM provider, please click here and search on NAEM’s interactive map. You can also join NAEM as a professional, allied professional, or supporting member and gain access to incredible clinical guideline resources and an extensive webinar library. HANDS-ON RESOURCE
Sheena Symington

The Electrosensitive Society of Canada has a long history of helping people with EMR Syndrome. This hands-on organization is dedicated to finding EMF-literate health professionals and remediation specialists who are able to locate and/or create low EMF zones. These zones allow people to live comfortably, work, and enjoy a better quality of life. For individuals who may require EMR-free hospitalizations, the Electrosensitive Society (www.electrosensitivesociety.com) will reach out to hospitals and advocate on the patient’s behalf. Feel free to contact the Director of the Electrosensitive Society, Sheena Symington, with any questions or support needs. Sheena works with the pioneering researcher, Dr. Magda Havas, at The ROSE Lab (www.theroselab.com) in Peterborough, Ontario. Dr. Havas is Professor Emerita at Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario.  Sheena can be reached at sheenasymington@gmail.com.

HEALING GUIDE

“An increasing number of patients have been discounted, discarded, and disheartened by the conventional model of medicine. Because their symptoms and body reactions don’t fit into the current medical paradigm, these people are told, ‘It’s all in your head,’ or ‘You’re too sensitive,’ even though their lives are greatly impacted. Medicine needs to move out of the Dark Ages and catch up, and this book provides us the necessary catch-up.”
~ Jill Crista, ND

THE EMR Syndrome Alliance is not in a position to recommend or endorse treatment protocols. Instead, we look to the expertise of healthcare professionals who have focused on EMR Syndrome in their practices and research. Coinciding with the rise of EMR Syndrome, advances in learning and treatment options have multiplied. One of the most comprehensive books on this topic is The Sensitive Patient's Healing Guide: Top Experts Offer New Insights and Treatments for Environmental Toxins, Lyme Disease, and EMFs, by Neil Nathan, MD. This well-organized publication highlights not only the experience of Dr. Nathan — but that of many other pioneering integrative practitioners. See other healing-based reading material in the RESOURCES section of this website.

MEDICAL ALERTS

Some people with EMR Syndrome are severely impacted by exposure to EMR in ambulances, hospitals, and clinical settings. In case of a personal medical emergency, it may be important to carry a Medical Alert warning statement.

Sample message: This patient has cardiac and neuro-complications of EMR Syndrome (Electromagnetic Radiation Syndrome). Must avoid cellphones, smart watches, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other sources of EMR. Use county radio instead of cellphones.

Several brands of Medical Alert products (cards, tags, necklaces, wristbands) can be purchased online. A well-established source is the Medic Alert Foundation. As an added tip, you may wish to tape medical instructions onto the back of your driver’s license or ID card. At home, place instructions on your refrigerator. These are the first places an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will look if you are unable to speak for yourself.

EHT’s mission is to champion the identification of emerging environmental hazards, advance research on their health effects, and formulate proactive preventative solutions. Currently, EHT is working on a groundbreaking study about the effect of cell phone radiation on human blood, known as “rouleaux formation.” This biomarker could become the diagnostic game changer for clinicians to develop guidelines for people with EMR Syndrome.

Join the movement! 704 No More® is a grassroots initiative that’s picking up steam and energizing the nation. Comprised of a non-partisan coalition of safe technology organizations, 704 No More® aims to overturn Section 704 of the federal 1996 Telecommunications Act. Why is this important? Because Section 704 allows cell towers to go up anywhere in America, without consideration of health effects. If successful, this initiative will not only restore state and local control over cell tower and antenna siting... It will ensure that communities can protect public health, environmental resources, and neighborhood character near homes, schools, and other sensitive locations. 704 No More® advances its mission through strategic litigation, public education, grassroots mobilization, and legislative advocacy. Join the movement today by subscribing to 704 No More® here.
